Message for Reflection (Sunday, January 18, 2026)

Our theme for this week is: Shinning the Light of Christ in the World. In our first reading, a servant of the Lord is chosen to bring God’s justice to the people of Israel. The servant is told that he has been chosen from the womb. While the servant feels incompetent for the task, the Lord encourages the servant to he has found favour with God. The servant will bring the light of God’s justice to a nation suffering in darkness.

In the second reading Paul writes to the church in Corinth. He greets the people who though they are facing tensions are united through Jesus Christ. Paul is writing to address concerns regarding spiritual gifts in the church. The believers were reminded that God had blessed them with every spiritual gift through Jesus Christ. As a result the believers are to unit to shine God’s light of Christ to the world.

In the gospel reading, John recognizes Jesus as the light of God who came into the world to shatter the darkness of sin. John testified that Jesus was the true light sent from God. The disciples of John began to follow him, one of whom, went to tell and lead his brother to the light he had seen. This light was Jesus the Messiah.
