Did you know? (Sunday, July 23, 2023)
Christian worship in denominations like ours is influenced by Judaism, particularly in the liturgy and prayers used during the Eucharist or Holy Communion. An example of this influence is seen in the first prayer (prayer A) for presenting offerings, which originated from a Jewish meal prayer. Early Jewish Christians integrated elements from their Jewish heritage into their Christian practices, adapting the Offertory Prayer for the Eucharistic liturgy. This prayer acknowledges God as the source of everything we offer, as everything we have has been given to us by God.
