The collect for the Feast of the Presentation of our Lord Jesus Christ in the Temple can be found on page 184 of our Book of Common Prayer. The collect was translated from a Latin service book known as the Gregorian sacramentary into English by Archbishop Cranmer in the mid-1500s. As the title of the Feast day suggests, the principal emphasis of the collect is the presentation of the Lord. In the Christian East, however, the Feast is known by a slightly different name: the “Feast of the Meeting (encounter) of the Lord in the Temple.”
