Did you know? (Sunday, August 7, 2022)
For the month of August, our focus is “discipleship and culture.” There is much debate as to what is “culture.” The word came into English from the Latin cultura. It was an agricultural term with the basic meaning “to grow, tend, or guard in.” Later it took on several additional meanings one of which is “the collective customs and achievements of a people.” According to Richard Niebuhr, in his book, “Christ and Culture,” these collective customs and achievements speak to a group’s “language, habits, ideas, beliefs, customs, social organization, inherited artefacts, technical processes, and values.”
