Did you Know? (Sunday, May 29, 2022)

The Psalm appointed for today belongs to a category of psalms that celebrates God’s universal kingship. All of creation can rejoice because “justice and righteousness” are fundamental to the way in which God rules. Consequently, those who live consistently with the fundamental values of God’s rule can be assured of God’s favour, while those who do not can be assured of defeat – as was the case when God led God’s people out of enslavement. Under the first covenant, God’s rule was to be mediated through the Davidic king. The Church teaches that Christ returned to the Father where he now rules the world as King of all. He is the human-divine King for whom Israel longed.
