Did you know? (Sunday, March 20, 2022)
Almsgiving or works of charity is closely associated with Lent. This is suggested in the proper preface for Lent on page 128 of our BCP. There, reference is made to being “fervent…in works of mercy.” Generally, almsgiving involves some type of sacrifice on behalf of the giver in order to provide for the needs of the other. In doing this, bonds of community are formed as we are encouraged to think beyond ourselves. It reminds us that we own nothing permanently and that it is best to walk life’s fragile journey living the life of selfless love Jesus embodied.
