The organ played a prominent role in the early days of reggae. The traditional reggae organ fills came primarily from the Hammond B3 organ. The organ is used to produce a shuffle sound. All of the top reggae bands use a reggae organ – the Wailers, Third World, UB40 and Iration are among the many which do. It has made a comeback in the “reggae revival.” In order to get the roots reggae sound, the reggae organ sound is essential. Given their flexibility, however, keyboards are mostly used these days as a substitute for the traditional reggae organ.
