Did you know? (Sunday, February 6, 2022)
The 2nd of February is always 40 days after Christmas Day. The day is celebrated as the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. The feast also commemorates Jesus’ first entry into the temple as well as the purification of the Virgin Mary. It brings to a conclusion the focus on the series of events that surround the birth of Jesus. Another name for the feast day is Candlemas. It is so called, because it is the tradition of some churches to bless the candles that are to be used in their liturgical services up until the next celebration of the feast. The blessing of candles recalls Simeon’s description of the infant Jesus as “a light for revelation to the Gentiles.”
