Some of the earliest Judeo-Christian celebrations were associated with harvest times. The feasts of Passover and Pentecost, for example, were associated with new flock and grain, respectively. The modern harvest service originated in Britain in the mid-1800’s. The “fields” do not relate solely to agriculture, but also to industry, commerce, science, technology and people.
