Did you know? (Sunday, April 3, 2022)
A common devotional practice during Lent is known as “The Stations of the Cross.” The practice began in the 1500s and was popularised by the Franciscans. The exercise helps participants imaginatively and prayerfully retrace the steps of Jesus’ Passion – from his being condemned by Pilate to his being placed in a tomb. The steps are concentrated in 14 points or stations. Jesus’ journey is retraced through the eyes of his mother, Mary. Pictures of the stations are generally mounted inside a Church. It is not unusual, however, for them to be seen in other spaces.
