Quote for Reflection (January 1-3, 2021)

The message of the gospel is that if human beings have lost the capacity to humble themselves before their Creator, then the Creator will humble Himself towards His creatures. So the divine humility breaks upon the scene of human pride: Bethlehem, Calvary, the feet-washing at the Last Supper, all say that ‘he who humbles himself will be exalted’ (Luke 18.14) for divine humility is the power that comes to make the human race different (cf Philippians 2).
