“Baptism in the primitive church was an eschatological sacrament. It meant that the person baptized was snatched out of a world delivered over to the immediately impending judgement of God (Acts 2: 38; Col. 1:13) and incorporated into the company of those redeemed by Christ’s saving work, an eschatological sealing in the last hour before the catastrophe.
