The Collect for Third Sunday of Advent

Stir up power, O Lord, and with great might come among us; and,
because we are sorely hindered by our sins, let your bountiful grace
and mercy speedily help and deliver us; through Jesus Christ our
Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honour and glory,
now and for ever.
Amen.

Parish News

Flowers at the foot of the altar are given in memory of Fay Blake by her family and members of her Fellowship Group.

Wednesday of this week is our Annual Gift Day when we make a monetary offering for the support of the Church's ministry and outreach. This appeal is made against the background of our ongoing contributions and I am aware of the financial constraints, which we are all experiencing. However, I am confident that we will make this special effort to express our love for God and his Church.

This evening at 6 o'clock our Senior Choir will lead us in our Annual Carol Service. Invite a friend to come and share in our celebration.

We welcome those visiting with us today and pray for journeying mercies for members travelling overseas. The peace of God be with us.

A substantial amount is still outstanding for Supper tickets used last November. We need to close this account before the end of December. Please submit payments NOW!

Next Sunday we will distribute Nomination Forms for election of our Church Committee for 2007. These forms must be completed and returned in preparation for our Congregational Meeting at the end of January 2007.

Prayers Of Intercession

Third Sunday of Advent

Leader: Loving Lord, help us to know that we dwell in you and you are in us. It is you, Lord, that seek out the straying and the lost: you desire to deliver all who are in trouble, you set out to rescue all who are oppressed, you come to us now and seek to bring us home. We rejoice in your presence and your almighty power. May your church share in your healing and saving power. We pray for the church working in areas of violence and rejection, for all Christians who are persecuted for their faith.
Lord, you are our deliverer.
All: You are our refuge and our strength.
Leader: We pray for areas of our world where people are devalued and discarded: for all who are outcasts and all who suffer from ethnic violence and class prejudice. We pray that the rich and those in authority may bring relief and hope to the poor. We pray for all who are involved in tax-collecting and in the use of our taxes, for all who are in the armed forces, and for all who maintain peace and order.
Lord, you are our deliverer.
All: You are our refuge and our strength.
Leader: Lord, we rejoice that you are with us in our homes. Make us sensitive in our dealings with each other, attentive to the needs and desires of our loved ones. We pray for all homes where there is fear and abuse.
Lord, you are our deliverer.
All: You are our refuge and our strength.
Leader: Mighty God, you are our strength. We pray for all who are frail and fearful, all who are weary and weak, all who are in pain or suffering hurt, especially……………….. We remember all who are captive to evil and vice.
Lord, you are our deliverer.
All: You are our refuge and our strength.
Leader: We rejoice with all who have left the troubles of this world and now experience the glorious liberty of the children of God. We pray for loved ones departed, especially………………………..
Lord, you are our deliverer.
All:

You are our refuge and our strength.

(Silence may be kept)

All:

Good and gracious God, grant us a glimpse of your glory, that we way rejoice in your presence and abide in your peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God now and for ever.
Amen.

Leader: The peace of the Lord be always with you
All: and also with you

Hymn: See How Great A Flame Aspires

See how great a flame aspires,
Kindled by a spark of grace!
Jesu's love the nations fires,
Sets the kingdoms on a blaze.
To bring fire on earth He came;
Kindled in some hearts it is:
O that all might catch the flame,
All partake the glorious bliss!

When He first the work begun,
Small and feeble was His day:
Now the word doth swiftly run,
Now it wins its widening way;
More and more it spreads and grows
Ever mighty to prevail;
Sin's strongholds it now o'erthrows,
Shakes the trembling gates of hell.

Sons of God, your Saviour praise!
He the door hath open wide;
He hath given the word of grace,
Jesu's word is glorified;
Jesus, mighty to redeem,
He alone the work hath wrought;
Worthy is the work of Him,
Him who spake a world from nought.

Saw ye not the cloud arise,
Little as a human hand?
Now it spreads along the skies,
Hangs o'er all the thirsty land
Lo! the promise of a shower
Drops already from above;
But the Lord will shortly pour
All the Spirit of His love!

Hymn: As The Deer

  1. As the deer pants for the waters,
    so my soul longs after You.
    You alone are my heart's desire
    and I long to worship You.

    Refrain
    You alone are my strength, my shield,
    to You alone may my spirit yield.
    You alone are my heart's desire
    and I long to worship You.

  2. I want You more than gold or silver,
    only You can satisfy.
    You alone are the real joy-giver
    and the apple of my eye.

    Refrain
    You alone...

  3. You're my friend and You're my brother,
    even though You are my king.
    I love You more than any other,
    so much more than anything.

    Refrain
    You alone...

Order for the Lighting of the Advent Wreath

Processional Hymn:

377

SEASONAL GREETINGS
PRESIDENT: (+) Grace, mercy and peace from God our Father and the
Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
PEOPLE: The Lord bless you.
Third Candle - The Candle of Love
Leader: Light and peace, in Jesus Christ our Lord
All: Thanks be to God
Leader: Today is the Third Sunday of Advent and we will light the Candle of Love.

Last Sunday we lit the Candle of Peace.
Today we light the Third Candle of Advent, the Candle of Love. In their old age God gave to Zechariah and Elisabeth a son called John. John spoke to the people bravely in the desert denying his own comforts and prepared to die for what he believed. John taught that we should share what we have with others, treat each other kindly and show God's love. He did this because he cared for people and wanted them to repent and find God's forgiveness.

The following is sung:

O come, Thou Rod of Jesse, free
Thine own from Satan's tyranny;
From depths of hell Thy people save,
And give them victory over the grave.

Refrain
Rejoice! Rejoice!
Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.

(Third Candle, the Candle of Love is lit)

Leader: Love is like a candle shining in a dark place.
People: As we look at the light of this candle we celebrate the love we have in Christ.
Leader: Let us pray:
All: Lord God, Your witness John the Baptist grew up strong in spirit and prepared people for the coming of the Lord. He loved your people and baptized them in the River Jordan to wash away their sins. Help us to have the same love that we would be witnesses to him and spread the good news of your love. As Christmas draws closer day by day, help us to be ready to welcome him.
Amen
THE TRISAGION

Holy God, holy and Mighty, Holy and Immortal One, Have mercy up on us.
Holy God, holy and Mighty, Holy and Immortal One, Have mercy up on us.
Holy God, holy and Mighty, Holy and Immortal One, Have mercy up on us.

Celebrant: Let us pray:
